Rim Sash Locks

Rim Sash Locks

When a timber door needs a straightforward keyed lock with a latch as well as a deadbolt, a rim sash lock is often the sensible answer. They are fitted to the inside face of the door rather than buried into it, which makes them a familiar choice for older properties, internal entrance doors, sheds, workshops and replacement jobs where cutting in a mortice lock is not practical.

A rim sash lock lets you pull the door shut using the latch, then lock it from either side with a key when security is needed. If the existing case has failed, the key has become unreliable or the keep has been damaged, replacing the worn part can save changing the whole door furniture. Match the case size, backset and handing before ordering; some models are left- or right-handed, while double-handed rim sash locks can be fitted either way around.

This selection includes dependable rim sash locks from Asec, Union and Yale, alongside replacement keeps and rim knob sets for common repairs. For a front or external door, it is worth checking the complete security arrangement rather than treating the rim lock in isolation. A rim sash lock may sit alongside high security mortice locks for external doors, while doors with older fittings may also need attention to replacement cylinder locks for UPVC doors or 5-lever deadlocks that meet insurance requirements. The correct lock depends on the door construction, the access required and the level of security the property calls for.
